Another Great Trip

Just got back from our annual stay at the Pono Kai. Beautiful weather, whales from the lanai, what more can you ask for.

There is a lot of activity going on at the resort and all 150 units will be remodeled over the next 2.5 years. They have started with the K building. This will affect availability for the oceanfront buildings so keep that in mind and book as early as you can to ensure you get the unit you want.

They had a model unit finished, F102 and I'll be posting some pictures. They did a great job in deciding how and what they changed. Be sure you check back here to see the new look.

Here are some pictures of the view we had from our unit A307. You can see that the work on the break wall is complete and the Coastal path is no longer diverted. They did a nice job with the beach in front of the A building. I noticed more people using that beach on this trip than I ever had.

On our last trip we went to Poipu Beach like we usually do but this time we finally decided to have a late lunch at Brennecke's. The atmosphere is very similar to the BeachWalk in Kapaa. It has a beautiful ocean view and the service was very friendly. There is a good variety of choices on the menu. You can see our choices above. Of course, I'm on a quest to find the perfect Mai Tai so I had to try a few. They were very good.

I recommend Brennecke's and you can certainly go cheaper than we did on this stop. Just stop in for some appetizers and take in the view.

Moses Art

While you travel and explore the island, stop at the shopping center in Hanalei on Saturday and see Moses creating his art. He has serious talent painting with his mouth. We love his Hawaii themed art and he has many prints to choose from.

The best part is that you don't have to be on the island to support this artist. You can check him out online.

But nothing beats seeing him in person working on his current project. He always takes time out to talk and answer any questions. Stop by, you won't be disappointed.

The county has finally started the SeaWall project by the Pono Kai. It started in early September and was said to take 60 days. We'll see how long it will actually take. I will post more information when I get it.

We will be at the Pono Kai from 2-20-16 to 3-5-16 so I will post some pictures while I'm there.

AirVenture Airplane Tour.

I've put off doing this tour for a few years. Should have done it sooner. My wife took the helicopter tour a few years ago and I didn't go, my daughter went with. The airplane tour is about half the price and everyone gets a window seat.

Smooth ride great views, we loved it. My wife liked it more than the helicopter tour. I got my wife a GoPro for her birthday and they had a mount on the plane for it. It was out on the wing and they set it up to take a picture, I think every 10 seconds. She got over 400 pictures and it was great.

We booked this right through the Pono Kai so it couldn't be easier.

We're returning in February so we decided we're taking a whale watching boat tour. Plus my wife wants to take the open cockpit flight AirVenture has.

If anyone has any questions, just hit reply.

The BeachWalk is about a five minute walk down the coastal path from the Pono Kai. We went here about six times during our last trip. My wife loved the Kalua Pork and I loved the calamari. We both loved the all day happy hour and the $5 Mai Tai's. One thing for sure is you can't beat the view.

We started our stay this year in F303 before moving to D302. Here's a short video of some of the chickens and the sun coming through the clouds in the early morning. This is how is was most mornings. 😀

My wife did a little tour of our unit at the Pono Kai. This unit is on the third floor and on the end so it has an extra window in the living room. It's probably about 30 yards from the ocean. This is our first trip during May and we haven't had to use the air conditioner at all. The trade winds have been great keeping everything cool. It's been 82 degrees everyday.
