Ke'e beach, the end of the Road.

This is a picture of Ke'e Beach. There is no road that goes all the way around the island. The road goes about 2/3rds of the way around and in both spots there is a dead end that you just turn around and go back. Heading north from the Pono Kai, that turnaround will be at Ke'e beach. This is a very popular beach and the parking fills up fast so you'll want to get there early.

One of the best things about the Pono Kai is it's location. These signs are right across the street from the resort and downtown is in walking distance. Kapa'a isn't a large city. It has a population of a little over 7,000 but there are plenty of diverse places to eat and drink. There are also plenty of places to get supplies or just do some shopping.

Most of Kauai is not assesible by car, that is the main reason Helecopter tours are so popular here. These tours are expensive but many people feel a trip to Kauai is not complete without one. The Pono Kai usually offers a chance to win a two for the price of one tour at Sunshine Helecopter. They have a Pono Kai special of $199 total, tax included one hour tour. My wife and daughter didn't win but they really wanted to go so they booked through the Pono Kai concierge. You don't get to see all Kauai has to offer in an hour but you get the idea from the photos, that you see some truely spectacular sights. The Napali Coast has to be see to be believed and one of the best ways is by
Helecopter.

TC's Island Grill in the Coconut Marketplace.

We went to TC's Island Grill for lunch while we were walking around the Coconut Marketplace one afternoon. The Coconut Marketplace was really hit hard by the bad economy but there is hope on the horizon. The management of Hawaii's famous ABC stores took over managing the marketplace and is said to be more business friendly for the store owners. Time will tell but more good stores will help the Island Grill, who has been able to thrive during the down turn.

Our lunch was light and fresh. Service was great and we will be going back. They also have plenty of room when the whole marketplace gets more busy. As you can see by the menu, price are reasonable and there is a good selection.
